[01:49.84]Alexander Peal of Liberia is the Goldman Prize winner from Africa. [01:56.53]Mister Peal worked to create Liberia's first and only national park. [02:03.35]He also started the country's first nongovernmental environmental organization. [02:10.30]Now he is working to improve the national park and surrounding villages. [02:16.83]Oral Ataniyazova of Uzbekistan won the award for Asia. [02:23.18]Doctor Ataniyazova started a center for reproductive health and the environment. [02:30.36]She has worked to improve the lives of local people, especially women and children. [02:37.62]Lawyer Vera Mischenko of Russia won the prize for Europe. [02:39.67]Msi Mischenko helped organize the first Russian public interest law organization. [02:46.41]She also brought the first successful legal actions against the Russian government [02:52.19]in defense of the environmental and health rights of citizens. [02:56.94]Nat Quansah of Madagascar won the award for the island nations. [03:03.29]He is a scientist who is helping to save the forests of Madagascar. [03:08.54]Mister Quansah developed a health care and environmental protection program on the island nation. |
